I'm not sure about the poll. Maybe steve can make a poll with the names and we will go from there. I called this section F.I.S.H. just to have a name, but i can change depending on the poll outcome.

We can match screen names with faces now! I expected everyone to sit around in silence but everyone was so enthusiastic (and friendly).

I really liked FISH. It's so accurate, and the acronym is good. The only drawback is that marine is implied but not obvious.

Yeah, I had a great time! I was thinking the same thing about the marine only being implied. We could call it "Marine F.I.S.H. Club" or something like that?

As soon as we finalize the name I can set up the club email and Paypal stuff. Debating whether we should work on a cash only basis. Looks like it takes up to a week to access funds from Paypal.

Okay so after the meeting... I just couldn't stop thinking of a name for us... After some 3am thinking I came up with this...

1. Oahu R.E.A.F.S.
Reef Ethics and Aquarium Fish Society
2. Oahu R.E.A.F. Club
With club instead of society

What you guys think?

That's why there will be a poll to vote. There were some generic ones like Honolulu Marine Aquarium Club and others like F.I.S.H. (Fish, Inverts, Softies of Hawaii).

Any other suggestions, please feel free to post so they can be added to the voting.

Hey all! That club meeting was pretty fun and I think we're off to a good start! Sorry it took so long for me to jump in on this thread, but as soon as I got home I had people over and it turned into a late night. :117: For everyone that couldn't make it, we pretty much ironed out the format of the club, except for the name. Here's a quick recap:

1. Our organizational structure is fairly simple:
President- Me (whohoo!!)
Treasurer- Thumy (Tooms)
Secretary- Kaleo (KaleoExtreme)

2. We will meet every month on the first Saturday of the month at 4PM.

3. Membership dues will be $20 per year and we will have fund raising efforts for the club in the future by doing things like selling T-shirts. We will also promote membership by putting up flyers at the various LFS here in town and maybe at places like the Waikiki Aquarium.

4. Every other month will be a meeting with a local speaker and each month in between we will have a field trip to someplace cool. Some of the field trips we will be working on will be places like the Waikiki Aquarium (behind the scenes), Coconut Island, snorkeling for Sand Anems in K-Bay, etc. You all will be notified of such events here on Reef Hawaii before they happen.

5. Next month we will meet at the same place and do an silent auction using any extra equipment that people might have laying around. I was also thinking of doing some type of frag swap. If the ocean lays down on the east side, I think I'll try to get some of our local blue leather coral for the next meeting. We shall see....

6. Finally, the name of the club will be put up to a vote here on Reef Hawaii. Send in your best names and then we will put them to a vote. Something with a catchy acronym would be cool, but not completely necessary.

This would be an interesting talk, especially if they could talk to us about the coral disease currently affecting K-Bay. I'll have to get a list of potential speakers together and see what I can come up with. Keep the ideas a flowin!

I met the president of reef check one time at WCC when I was checking out the marine tank there. There meeting room door is right next to the tank. He's actually a good friend of Jeff's (HawaiianTank). That guy (Jeff) has a bunch of connections. Too bad he doesn't post anymore.

I must say I am saddened :o10: that no one called to tell me you guys had another gtg without me..... U guys do have my number you know.. LOL just playing.:cornut: I was off island this last weekend so couldn't have made it anyway. Its really cool to see that it is getting even more official with monthly meetings. If you guys need anything calling me is going to get the fastest response. I will be there for the next meeting though!

Fiji was a blast. The underwater camera I had the battery died and I got a few pics of us on the boat on the way out to go surfing and a few on the way back. My other camera that I used to take the tourist pics got grabbed out of the side of my backpack when I had to send it as a checked bag. So no real pics. I do have the memories though!

Yah I went to Fiji for the weekend and went surfing. Planning another trip back sooner than later hopefully. I will most definitely go diving next trip also!
