Marine Club

Hey guys,
My boss (Richard Xie) over at Hawaiian Sealife Inc. (Hawaii's largest marine ornamental wholesaler) has offered to let us use his new 30,000 sq.ft. facility to have an actual club that meets once per month. The facility has TONS of space and I think it is time that Honolulu finally gets a marine club together. The freshies have one for Chrissakes! Anyway, I would like to get a bunch of people together from RH to organize this to be the initial 'ringleaders' and get a coherent plan and club structure together. Richard has already given me the greenlight for such meetings, so it should be a pretty painless operation.

I come to you guys to see if you are interested in meeting once a month, having speakers come and talk to us and basically doing what most marine hobbyists do: Have an in-person club! This is something I really want to do and I will DEFINITELY make this happen if I get support. What do you guys think?

Alright everybody, sounds like we have come critical mass going! So now come the arduous task of herding the cats! What day/time is best for everyone? I'm thinking early evening time, either on Saturday or Wednesday. Does a meeting on a weekday for weekend sound better?

Well the consensus seems to point to a weekend day in the afternoon. I think I will try to arrange the first meeting to be on Saturday, March 3rd at 4PM. Any objections?

I think for our first activity, we will do a meet and greet and I would like to set up a club hierarchy, methodology for each meeting (ie. what activities go in what order), create a name, talk about non-profit status and generally cement this club into something legit. I would also like to talk about idea for guest speakers. Basically it will be a meet and greet with business to follow up.

A tour of the place sounds awesome, that, introductions, pitchinng ideas for t shirts should take 2 hours. Omg, we can gyotaku on our club shirts! Then everyone's would be unique! That could be an activity for one meeting. Now, will there be a member fee? Will this be apart of oceas' club?

We actually could gyotaku shirts. Their freezer is full of cool dead fish. There will be a member fee (which I'm guessing will be around $20 and will be separate from Hawaiian Sealife Inc), and it will be similar to Oseas' deal, though this one will be an actual club and not just a fish purchasing deal.

What: First meeting of Honolulu's Marine Club (Name yet to be determined)

Basically, the purpose of this meeting will be to get everyone together and hash out what we want our club to look like, ie. the structure, the timing (meet every month or every other month), the format, dues, etc. I would like to get a Board of Directors together so that a behind the scenes crew can meet and organize each meeting. Lets also not forget the fact that many of us do not yet know each other face to face, so a meet and greet is also an important part of this Saturday's gathering. Do not worry about showing up and no one being there because at the very least, I will be there!! lol I think this will be a lot of fun and will be a good way to finally get a marine club in Hawaii going. See you all then!
